Main Bathroom

Well – I decided to start planning the first floor bathroom since we are waiting for windows and roof supplies.

We took the bathroom down to the studs in order to put in the appropriate drywall for a bathroom.  the happy crazy house main floor bathroom demo

I will keep the same layout with the toilet and bathtub/shower on the left wall and the vanity on the right.

Here are a few inspiration images.

The vanity in this one….

Or maybe this one??

This room is gorgeous!!

Here are some links to bathrooms that spoke to me.

Since Polyvore is no more.  click here for the announcement.  I just dumped my pics below in a less than attractive format.  Another item on my list of things to learn…..

bathroom

  1. Delta Shower and Tub Faucet
  2. Matte White Tile
  3. Bella 60 inch single sink vanity
  4. Delta Sink Faucet

*Keep those wood floors and have them redone to withstand a bathroom.

The question now is lights.  Any ideas or suggestions?

New fixer upper for us

So a thing happened- We bought a fixer.  Surprise!!  After we completely overhauled our last house, the last thing that I wanted when we moved to ND was another house that I would have to redo – only this one needs even more work than the MT one did.  What are we thinking??  Oh yeah – great price and great potential.

When you walk into the house, the first thing you will see is a small alcove.  I have plans for this space.

After the entry alcove – turn to the left and a nice view of some super sweet paneling.  Should it stay?

Here is a pic from the corner looking back to the front entry.

Just outside the living room – look to your right and there is a hallway to the main level bathroom, 2 bedrooms and laundry.

The master is surprisingly large and boasts 2! (that’s two!!!) closets.  Which means that I will no longer have to share with Dave and look at the terrible mess he makes of his clothes.

The spare room is pretty spacious as well for this age of a house.  Although it DOES have the electrical panel in it.  Weird!  you can see it from the hallway photo.  Don’t get me wrong – I am incredibly thankful that the electrical has been updated…but couldn’t the panel be located somewhere less noticeable?

Back in the hallway, you can see to the laundry, bathroom, stairs to the attic and kitchen/dining room.

The dining room windows will be replaced with a set of french doors out to a new deck…super pumped for that.

The kitchen cabinets are in very good shape and the missing one above the fridge is actually in the attic – so with a little work, we can have the full set up.

The attic is unfinished but a new bathroom has been plumbed in and all new electrical has been installed.

There are some things that have to be addressed immediately before moving on to some of the ‘nice to do’ items.

  1.  Roof.  This house has a few layers of very old shingles.  These need to go before anything inside gets worked on.
  2. Windows.  All original windows (rotted)-  We will be replacing them.

After that we move on to the ‘nice to do’

  1.  Refinish flooring – the wood floors are in pretty good shape….way better than I would have assumed.
  2.  Stain kitchen cabinets.
  3.  First floor bathroom.  Take down the peeling wallpaper, tile the bathtub, new vanity, etc.
  4.  Walls – paint and patch all first floor walls.
  5.  Attic – finish the bathroom and turn the attic into a kids area.

I think those are my new entries into the Never Ending List….hahahahahaha

I am looking forward to the end result.  Stop by again and see what we are up to!

Life on the Prairie

The lake cabin has been closed for the season and we have moved down from the lake to the prairie.  Our new digs is an old (+100 years) house in Dave’s home town.  you know the one…..there is only 30 people here.

It definitely needs some love and attention.  Here is a little peak at what we walked into…..

All of the carpet needed to be pulled up and this back entryway got some new linoleum to take that yucky stuffs place.

Even though there are still a TON of boxes in the living room and dining room, I was able to organize enough of the kitchen to have a clear work space.  Thank goodness!  Cooking at home is one of my favorite past times and not being able to do that was brutal.

Here is another shot as I was getting dinner ready.

Jules is digging the banister.

Behind Jules is a gorgeous leaded glass window – I will have to take some window pics to showcase them.  Below is another pic of some leaded windows.  This room is supposed to be the dining room, but for now it is functioning as my library.  Hello!  I need those books out and available for my reading pleasure.

The downstairs bathroom has been cleaned and painted.  I will have to address the floor – unless any of you have some kind of linoleum floor cleaning secret.  I have not been able to clean it any better than this ……

If cleaning is your super power….share your knowledge!

Last item – did you notice a tiny kennel in the dining room/library pic?  well……..

And here we go –

to start with – the tile!  sigh.  It matches the entry landing, the basement landing and the basement bathroom.  It is so awesome to walk through the house and feel that kind of consistency.

don’t worry – that side edge of the vanity below has since been cleaned up.

So bright- squinty.

The paint is up, the trim is in, the vanity is in (so gorgeous and shiny white).   I also decided to go with a vintage-y looking mirror to contrast the ultra sleek vanity.

I know I keep saying it – but seriously……2013!!!  That is when I started this thing. And now its done.  I am so excited to be able to cross this off my list.
