Main Bathroom

Well – I decided to start planning the first floor bathroom since we are waiting for windows and roof supplies.

We took the bathroom down to the studs in order to put in the appropriate drywall for a bathroom.  the happy crazy house main floor bathroom demo

I will keep the same layout with the toilet and bathtub/shower on the left wall and the vanity on the right.

Here are a few inspiration images.

The vanity in this one….

Or maybe this one??

This room is gorgeous!!

Here are some links to bathrooms that spoke to me.

Since Polyvore is no more.  click here for the announcement.  I just dumped my pics below in a less than attractive format.  Another item on my list of things to learn…..

bathroom

  1. Delta Shower and Tub Faucet
  2. Matte White Tile
  3. Bella 60 inch single sink vanity
  4. Delta Sink Faucet

*Keep those wood floors and have them redone to withstand a bathroom.

The question now is lights.  Any ideas or suggestions?

New fixer upper for us

So a thing happened- We bought a fixer.  Surprise!!  After we completely overhauled our last house, the last thing that I wanted when we moved to ND was another house that I would have to redo – only this one needs even more work than the MT one did.  What are we thinking??  Oh yeah – great price and great potential.

When you walk into the house, the first thing you will see is a small alcove.  I have plans for this space.

After the entry alcove – turn to the left and a nice view of some super sweet paneling.  Should it stay?

Here is a pic from the corner looking back to the front entry.

Just outside the living room – look to your right and there is a hallway to the main level bathroom, 2 bedrooms and laundry.

The master is surprisingly large and boasts 2! (that’s two!!!) closets.  Which means that I will no longer have to share with Dave and look at the terrible mess he makes of his clothes.

The spare room is pretty spacious as well for this age of a house.  Although it DOES have the electrical panel in it.  Weird!  you can see it from the hallway photo.  Don’t get me wrong – I am incredibly thankful that the electrical has been updated…but couldn’t the panel be located somewhere less noticeable?

Back in the hallway, you can see to the laundry, bathroom, stairs to the attic and kitchen/dining room.

The dining room windows will be replaced with a set of french doors out to a new deck…super pumped for that.

The kitchen cabinets are in very good shape and the missing one above the fridge is actually in the attic – so with a little work, we can have the full set up.

The attic is unfinished but a new bathroom has been plumbed in and all new electrical has been installed.

There are some things that have to be addressed immediately before moving on to some of the ‘nice to do’ items.

  1.  Roof.  This house has a few layers of very old shingles.  These need to go before anything inside gets worked on.
  2. Windows.  All original windows (rotted)-  We will be replacing them.

After that we move on to the ‘nice to do’

  1.  Refinish flooring – the wood floors are in pretty good shape….way better than I would have assumed.
  2.  Stain kitchen cabinets.
  3.  First floor bathroom.  Take down the peeling wallpaper, tile the bathtub, new vanity, etc.
  4.  Walls – paint and patch all first floor walls.
  5.  Attic – finish the bathroom and turn the attic into a kids area.

I think those are my new entries into the Never Ending List….hahahahahaha

I am looking forward to the end result.  Stop by again and see what we are up to!

After long last the upstairs bathroom is done.  Yahoo!!

Whew.

First photo of the bathroom for this blog.  ehh.

And here we go –

to start with – the tile!  sigh.  It matches the entry landing, the basement landing and the basement bathroom.  It is so awesome to walk through the house and feel that kind of consistency.

don’t worry – that side edge of the vanity below has since been cleaned up.

So bright- squinty.

The paint is up, the trim is in, the vanity is in (so gorgeous and shiny white).   I also decided to go with a vintage-y looking mirror to contrast the ultra sleek vanity.

I know I keep saying it – but seriously……2013!!!  That is when I started this thing. And now its done.  I am so excited to be able to cross this off my list.

The NeverEnding List 2017

What to work on, what to work on??  Our 2016 list is looking good and I only have 2 items that are moving over  to 2017 and 1 (!) of them is already past the halfway point. (Hint: it’s the Basement Bathroom)

  1.  Basement Bathroom
  2.  Guest Bathroom
  3.  Stair Treads
  4.  Back Patio

So close, I can almost taste it.  Ceiling, shelves next to sink to balance out the retro (!) mirror and a small door to the sump pump.

Looking forward to getting on with these projects and crossing them off my list.  my favorite activity

Enjoy your weekend Peeps.

Bathroom Update

Which bathroom?  Is that the question you are thinking in your head?  How about both bathrooms?! Hells yeah.

Basement bathroom has seen the needle move the most.  As I said in my Instagram post, this pic makes me feel like we have taken several steps backward.  It is a positive thing though….we are prepping for tile.

We are prepping for tile on our landing as well.  Check out that retro linoleum:

I can’t make it around the corner for a pic of the bathroom but here is the landing:

Such a good look for you 1970’s house.

I am eagerly anticipating the grout being completed and the laundry (!) getting hooked back up.

Upstairs Recap:

I have been planning this bathroom for AGES. (read years)

***Chris H – did you see that I took your advice??

Future plan for this bathroom –

  • finish painting the walls blue
  • floor tile (same as basement and landings)
  • new tub insert
  • price out tile for the shower portion (may be a full insert, may be just a tub)
  • install white toilet
  • install white vanity
  • new trim
  • evaluate the art

More pics to come as we complete each project!  Happy New Year Peeps.

Friday Wrap Up 10

Additional work on our random projects is getting done. Dave was in town for a couple of weekdays and knocked it out of the park.
Stairs to the chicken coop:
Last winter we had a lot of ice on the hill in front of the coop …..you know that means I fell a few times, right?

Big Chicken photobomb

A friend of ours was redoing his back yard and had a big stack of railroad ties.  So last spring we loaded them up and they were patiently waiting until Dave could turn them into stairs.

The pic above was after one day of work.  The bush will be moved, 1 more tier at the top added and the entrance to the coop finalized.  Fun stuff!!

 Downstairs Family Room:

The room is now white, like the rest of the house.  I have moved around a couple of things and need to make more adjustments.

I used to have shelves on either side of the window but I took down the ones on the left to make room for the TV on the wall.  I will continue to move the furniture all around the room to try and find the location that works for everything.  tube tv is for Duck Hunt- love that game  – teaching kids the classics. Ha!

Hope you have a great weekend!  We will be spending time with family on the farm.  Photos on Instagram.
