This week has been intense after a hail storm hit us on Sunday. We had a few hours prep time as we had a storm chaser friend warn us about the strength of the storm blowing in.
We put away all of the ‘fragile’ furniture and outdoor cushions, moved all the plants inside or under the eaves and then covered my tomatoes and peppers that were already planted. ANNNNDDDDDD…………SUCCESS!! Everything made it. We had golf ball sized hail so there are other things that need attention. I addressed the chipped paint on my NEWLY painted front porch, and it is looking mighty fine.
The front porch update will be completed once the new front door is installed and my ground cover for the garden is delivered. Whew.
After I completed the outside paint touch-ups I moved the painting party inside. I cleaned up the edges in the kitchen……
Lastly in the paint extravaganza….my stairs. They needed a pick me up.
Well Peeps……..in anticipation for Memorial Weekend I am leaving for vacation Friday morning……see you on the flip side.
Holiday traditions….ever sat down and really thought about the ones you grew up with and how they influence you now? Quite frankly I never gave it much thought, until the girls. Mister and I were pretty all over the board with what we did activity wise for Thanksgiving and Christmas….but for a few exceptions we always go to my SIL’s house in North Dakota for Thanksgiving and she comes to our place for Christmas. Mister and I decided that some Thanksgiving (activity) traditions need to be started for the girls…..something that will remind them of the yearly, wintery trek to NoDak. My mom gave me a Rosette iron annnndddddd SIL (sister in law) and mister have one that comes from their grandma. Me thinks this could be it!
SIL pulled out the trusty family recipe and went to work. (if you want to adjust for vegan…use soymilk and Ener-G)
SIL and mister were in charge of the batter and the irons….
Captain Destructo had the sugar station.
Little Bit and I were the official taste testers. I love my job.
This is Year 1 of 1….wish us luck in getting 2 of 2.
So the Denver trip part that was a romantic getaway was a total bust….BUT the purchasing that went on was amazing. I am just giving a peek at what I purchased….I will slowly but surely reveal where it is all going. HAHAHAHA!!! Who am I kidding. I will let you know now! The finalization of the projects is what is going to take an agonizingly long time.
Captain of Destruction is going to get her own room for Christmas….shhhhhh, it’s a surprise! I scoped out Ikea online for weeks before my trip to Denver. I wanted to make sure that I was prepared and ready for a whirlwind trip to the store. Alas….all my planning went out the door the second I entered the parking garage.
Other additions will find their way to the final Christmas day reveal….but more to come on that!
Small vanity: Lillangen
. This will be in the master (tiny) bathroom. Once again….wish us luck on starting and finishing that.
So mister and I took a break from the house and went down to meet my sister-in-law (SIL) in Denver. The highlight of the trip???? A Broncos game. So Fun! Side benefit, mister and I would be by ourselves after the game in Denver for 3 extra days. Awwww. Yeah right! Misters work got in the way and I had to meet him in Denver. I drove down on Friday night and met my sister-in-law at the airport…..dropped her off at the hotel and went back to the airport for mister. SIL was in charge of getting us a cheap downtown hotel room, which she fulfilled. Unfortunately, it was little on the sketchy side….think stained floors, stained walls and taped off adjoining doors. We checked out the next day and used misters travel points to score a sweet room.
Here is a pic of the view from our room:
Saturday was spent shopping, hanging out and eating. Lunch was at Highland Tavern…Yum.
Sunday was Game Day!!!!!!
I really, really like NFL football and Sundays are pretty much my favorite day of the week just for that reason…..if only I could ignore Monday looming over my shoulder. Anyhoo….Broncos won, which makes the live game that much sweeter.
Well – Monday rolled around, which meant that mister and SIL had to fly out leaving me behind. Mister and I had planned on meeting up with a friends band that was touring through Denver, so I stayed in town to attend the concert and hit up Ikea.
Next Post….Ikea Purchases!!!!! Yeah. It’s an adult candyland, fantasyland, home improvement mecca….all rolled up into one. I have also heard the following statement “They should film a Survivor episode in an Ikea”…..Yup…True!
I am going to go back in time….back to a time where my basement is not in a state of mid-repair, back to a time where my front garden and back deck is not mud central, back to a time where I could walk into the garage….wait…ignore that last one….not sure when that was ever possible.
The week before the water invaded….we went on a trip, a trip to a lake. AHHHHHHH….
Just the image relaxes me and takes me far, far away from this dusty house.
I also have some river pics……went for a rafting trip and got rained on…totally worth it.
See below for whirlpool time.
I will be getting some house pics out here….but wanted to re-live some great last ditch summer fun.
A week ago we left for a long lake vacation. It was amazing….and will be another post. But upon our return, there was a storm…a big storm. The result was debris all over the yard….
Water and dirt in the house….which meant we needed to empty the basement and take out the flooring and drywall…..
Remember Mailbox Garden??.…well this is what it looks like now…… After my super sweet neighbor started working on getting us both mailboxes back up, after gathering the blocks from where they landed in the borrow pit down the road…AND AFTER the county re-graded the road.
I refuse to give in and be depressed or super cry-e (that’s a word, I promise). Mister and I are hard working and handy….ok, ok, mister more than me. But we will get this straightened up and looking decent again.
In a last-ditch effort to cram as much outdoor and camping time in as I can before the end of September, I have scheduled myself so busy that I will not be able to pee unless I check the calendar. Exception being the dance camp that Captain of Destruction is in this week…..it means that she will be dancing at Montana Fair this weekend. So although I will be scheduled/busy, I will not be camping.
During the last outing, we went about 2 hours outside of town and experienced a great locale. It was beautiful and quiet.
The river was clear and the sky was so bright I could barely see the blue.
I spent all day Saturday parked in a camp chair next to the river….watching everyone fish and the girls playing in the water.
A storm rolled in on Saturday night…but it stayed over the Mountains next door. Pretty sweet.
What’s your favorite summer hangout or activity?
