New fixer upper for us

So a thing happened- We bought a fixer.  Surprise!!  After we completely overhauled our last house, the last thing that I wanted when we moved to ND was another house that I would have to redo – only this one needs even more work than the MT one did.  What are we thinking??  Oh yeah – great price and great potential.

When you walk into the house, the first thing you will see is a small alcove.  I have plans for this space.

After the entry alcove – turn to the left and a nice view of some super sweet paneling.  Should it stay?

Here is a pic from the corner looking back to the front entry.

Just outside the living room – look to your right and there is a hallway to the main level bathroom, 2 bedrooms and laundry.

The master is surprisingly large and boasts 2! (that’s two!!!) closets.  Which means that I will no longer have to share with Dave and look at the terrible mess he makes of his clothes.

The spare room is pretty spacious as well for this age of a house.  Although it DOES have the electrical panel in it.  Weird!  you can see it from the hallway photo.  Don’t get me wrong – I am incredibly thankful that the electrical has been updated…but couldn’t the panel be located somewhere less noticeable?

Back in the hallway, you can see to the laundry, bathroom, stairs to the attic and kitchen/dining room.

The dining room windows will be replaced with a set of french doors out to a new deck…super pumped for that.

The kitchen cabinets are in very good shape and the missing one above the fridge is actually in the attic – so with a little work, we can have the full set up.

The attic is unfinished but a new bathroom has been plumbed in and all new electrical has been installed.

There are some things that have to be addressed immediately before moving on to some of the ‘nice to do’ items.

  1.  Roof.  This house has a few layers of very old shingles.  These need to go before anything inside gets worked on.
  2. Windows.  All original windows (rotted)-  We will be replacing them.

After that we move on to the ‘nice to do’

  1.  Refinish flooring – the wood floors are in pretty good shape….way better than I would have assumed.
  2.  Stain kitchen cabinets.
  3.  First floor bathroom.  Take down the peeling wallpaper, tile the bathtub, new vanity, etc.
  4.  Walls – paint and patch all first floor walls.
  5.  Attic – finish the bathroom and turn the attic into a kids area.

I think those are my new entries into the Never Ending List….hahahahahaha

I am looking forward to the end result.  Stop by again and see what we are up to!

After long last the upstairs bathroom is done.  Yahoo!!

Whew.

And here we go –

to start with – the tile!  sigh.  It matches the entry landing, the basement landing and the basement bathroom.  It is so awesome to walk through the house and feel that kind of consistency.

don’t worry – that side edge of the vanity below has since been cleaned up.

So bright- squinty.

The paint is up, the trim is in, the vanity is in (so gorgeous and shiny white).   I also decided to go with a vintage-y looking mirror to contrast the ultra sleek vanity.

I know I keep saying it – but seriously……2013!!!  That is when I started this thing. And now its done.  I am so excited to be able to cross this off my list.

So close, I can almost taste it.  Ceiling, shelves next to sink to balance out the retro (!) mirror and a small door to the sump pump.
