How we live in this house

One of the things that does not happen when I take photos, is staging. Would the house pictures look better if I added some things in and moved others around in order to get a great shot? Of course! But that is not how we live in this house and it would not give you an accurate view into how we make this house work for us.  The only thing that really changes is the level of cleanliness.  hahahaha.  Seriously though.  I try to take pics after we have picked up the randoms that have accumulated over the course of a few days.

I ran home at lunch yesterday to take a few phone pics of how this place can look at any random time.  and poorly lit…sorry peeps

Kitchen is pretty good in comparison to some days.  🙂  Wine left out from book club the night before, dishes left out to dry, Jane’s glass on the counter and my glass on the bar

Jane’s room is looking good.

Main bathroom is so-so.  FULL garbage and Jane’s necklace left out on the counter.

The master is the worst.  I have a container full of old, small toys to sort through (next to my bedside table). Dave has a pile of clothes that needs to be put away….I think this is Day 3….no Day 4

As a contrast here is the same shot – but clean and lit well.

Brutal.

If you follow me on Instagram – you see the house as it really is on a day to day basis.  Here is a pic of Jules dancing; coat on the floor, paper on the chair, etc.

I love the pics that show the house well lit and clean…but I will continue to add in some pics on Instagram and here that represents our day to day life, mess and all.

Friday Wrap Up 11

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with those that you love.

Jules and Jane wrote incredibly sweet notes for everyone.  **sniff**

In house news, the stairs to the chicken coop are complete.  At the end of the last post we still had a few things to finish up in order to call this done for the winter.

The final stair is in and the bush under the window has been moved.

A layer of concrete has been installed upon the upper tier.  We have had snow since this picture and let me tell you…..what a relief to be able to make it to the chickens without worrying about slipping down the hill.  clutz

I will be focusing on the basement for the next few months – bathroom and family room.  I need to settle on furniture placement and art before I can say I am done with the family room.

Here are some inspiration shots:

I am all over the board with this.  hahaha   wish me luck.  🙂

Friday Wrap Up 9

Movement happening on some of our home projects. Yeah!  I will be updating the House Tour tab with the pictures below.

Jules asked to make some changes in her room.  When Jules and Jane split rooms, this is what it looked like:

Jules picked out the bedding and pillows herself, but a few years down the line, she was not happy spending time in her room.

Here is where we are right now.  Still a work in progress, but Jules is much happier.

  • Toy chest went from a bright red to a denim blue.
  • Bedding changed  from the red and white polka dot to a shabby chic floral.
  • Art changed to reflect the new colors.

The one thing we are not sure about is her Art Cart.  All of her art supplies are housed here – but it is very awkward.  It does not really fit anywhere in the room.  This will probably change in the future.  hahahaha – silly me.  everything changes in this house.

Both prints were instant downloads from Etsy

Our walkway from the driveway to the house has also been improved.  Here is the before:

Winter is coming.  hehe  I did not want to have another winter where I needed to pick my way through the rocks to my front door, so Dave made it a priority.  Goal – get it done before the first snow flies.  We loaded up and headed to Home Depot to get our supplies.

We are still working on the finishing touches.  If you look in the above photo the first stair needs to be completed and trimmed out.  Outside of those small details –  the Goal was met.  Snow came this week:

Updating pics for the House Tour

I have made some slight adjustments in each room over the course of the past months. After seeing my recent images in contrast to what I have on the House Tour tab……I need to get those updated. So here are some of the things that are different.

Here is a sneak peek at the changes I have made in Jane’s room.

I have a bunch of small items to touch on going forward: master bedroom curtains, entry paint touch up, library clean up and art revamp, replace black fridge with a white one, etc.

That should keep me busy for a bit. 🙂
