Retro Living Room – temporary

Well – my beloved Orange couch is in need of some repair.  I am not sure what the damage is quite yet, but there seems to be a popped spring or a broken brace.  *sniff*  Luckily there is a very good furniture repair business in town that I like and trust, so Orange couch will be going to the clinic to get well again.

DSCN1717Unfortunately because the repair needs to be made under the seat it is almost a foregone conclusion that it will be reupholstered when it returns home.  What that upholstery will be I have no idea.  Dave threw out the black vinyl that we used on our other 2 chairs…but I think that may be too much.  White, Cream, Light Grey, Pale Orange….those have all been entertained….but none chosen yet.  What do you think???

In the meantime – I have moved a couch from storage (slated for the future game room downstairs) into the living room.

One item on my list is to fashion some kind of attachment to keep the cushions in place.  They slide like crazy.  Velcro??

IMG_0268Looking at this pic – I will be moving Giant Lamp to the corner table between the sections.  Beyond that this couch will do nicely as a fill in, especially with the holidays coming up fast.

DIY Bedroom Spray Paint Project

So last weekend I went a little nuts with the spray paint…..and it kind of bled over to this weekend.  Seriously, take the spray can out of my hand.

But First!!!  A completed project that I started:

Here is where I left off……

IMG_2868This used to be a mirror and I decided to change it.  of course I decided to change it……

I spray painted the backing wood a nice chrome and then went about my business with the gold leaf.  Say What?  Yup – gold leaf.

IMG_2876That milky white stuff in the picture above is the adhesive……let it set and then start applying your gold leaf.

IMG_2877I got myself all gilded up….on accident.  apparently there are people out there who rock at this and don’t make a serious mess……but I am NOT one of them.

IMG_2879I layered in white, grey, various shades of blue and kept working it until I was happy with the result.

IMG_2883I like how it turned out……and I put it up in the bedroom.  Turns out I must have unconsciously used that mirror…..as I have been glancing at it non-stop and being surprised that it wasn’t my reflection.

IMG_2908Like it?

IMG_2907Remember when I said I couldn’t stop spray painting stuff?

Here’s a clue…….

IMG_2884OMG make it stop (Dave says silently)

As a reminder The NeverEnding List has been haunting me for ages.

Let’s walk through this bad boy

World Map project – new art

I created a new piece for me, and it is awesome.  If you did not already know, I have a thing for maps.  (As seen Here  and explained Here)  I was looking for a way to put together a world map piece and stumbled upon this etsy ad.  I am really glad that I found it, as it made my piece super easy to do.

This piece is going above the cabinets that I have in the living room – so I had Dave cut a piece of wood to match the top that we did for the cabinets.  I prepped by sanding and rounding the edges.  I then measured out my placement and started painting.

I used the same Valspar white that I have on my trim and other accents throughout the house.

I got my poly on, with a light sanding in between coats.

So pretty – IMG_2780

Last thoughts:  ignore the TV (it’s football season!! I gotta have it out here)  and the shadows…it has been overcast the past few days and I didn’t want to wait for pics.

I have a ton of ideas on more map projects, but I will use my projector for those as I will not be able to use the stencil again.  sad face.
